The Filipino edutainment computer-aided instructional material softwares named as “eDamath” and “Fibo the Frog Mathemajess’yan” are now available online to the public. These were developed by superintendent-eligible Jesus L. Huenda of the Bureau of Secondary Education aiming to help learners hone their analytical thinking skills in dealing with integers and number patterns, respectively, at the same time fun, interesting and challenging.
The origin of Damath was the boardgame “dama” (also called checkers). It is a combination of dama and math (numbers and operations). Integer Damath covers numbers which has negative and positive values. This game aims to get the highest score by taking the opponent’s chip. Each chip has corresponding value of numbers (negative or positive). Scores will depend on the number assigned to the chip and where the taker chip landed.
Fibo the Frog Mathemjess’yan is an edutainment learning package portraying the smart cartoon character frog called Fibo as the mathemajess’yan. This computer-assisted instructional material in secondary school Mathematics - II attempts to present the topic on Fibonacci sequence in fun but interesting manner through storytelling with integration in English, Science and Values Education. With Authoring tool as intelligent interactive feature of the said digital instructional material, it also made use of flowcharts, concept diagram, indigenous math games, haiku verse, simulation, user-friendly pre/post tests, and other graphics.
According to educational technology inventor Huenda, Damath and its digital version eDamath (i.e., player vs. computer or two players in LAN-formatted PCs) were also used in some mathematics competitions anywhere in the region.
(Helpful Tip: If the eDamath Installation Setup asks for your response to the question: “Do you want to keep the old file?”, please answer with the “No to All” option.)
